Last year I had the opportunity to participate in a WebQuest with my 12th grade special ed students within their English class as a pre-reading activity before they began reading, The Kite Runner. This activity was a means to expose them to the culture in the Middle East, along with the historical context surrounding their turmoil. Now that I am working in 9th grade, I have four content areas that I could see as a possible means for utilizing Webquests.
The first idea I have to incorporate a Webquest with would be with in Living Environment on the topic of genetics. I think that we only touch on the amazing world of genetics and there are tons of simulation sites, videos, images, and articles exposing amazing details of genetics.
The other idea that I have thought of was actually one that I researched when browsing through Webquests. In English, I think it would be extremely beneficial to create literature circles using the Webquest as the primary focus. In addition to utilizing a literature circles to study texts, a small group of students being responsible for completing and discussing the components and tasks of a Webquest would ensure that students are fully emerging themselves in the effects of the Webquest.
